The concept of Learning Space emerged as a supplementary creative learning initiative rooted in the realities of rural education in Maharashtra. Between 2002 and 2005, founder Nitin Orayan lived and worked in villages on the outskirts of Mumbai, where he observed significant gaps in teaching methods, learning support, and overall educational environments for rural children. These experiences shaped his understanding of the systemic challenges faced by underserved communities and inspired the vision for a holistic development approach.
To take this vision forward, the Learning Space Foundation (LSF) Trust was formally established in July 2006. The Trust Deed and Memorandum were registered at the Charity Commissioner’s Office, marking the beginning of an organisation committed to supporting rural and tribal communities in multiple dimensions—education, health, agriculture, capacity building for local youth and women, livelihood opportunities for educated youth, and broader aspects of rural development.
